well hello...

Wow. I can't believe it's been over a year since I last posted! Actually, I can. I've kinda forgotten about this good ole blog page. A LOT has changed since I last posted, so let me tell you about it.
I had a WONDERFUL year in 2nd grade last year! There were a few things I liked better about 3rd, but a few things I enjoyed more about 2nd. Well, this year, I am teaching 1st! In a whole new district... in a whole new town!! That's right! I moved out on my own! I'm only a little over an hour away from home, so it's not so bad. I go home or my sister comes here, nearly every weekend. It's been wonderful! The only part I don't like is coming home alone. Other than that, it's been good. I have an awesome church here, and the team I work with is awesome! So, overall, it's just been an AWESOME change! I was ready for it and God knew what I needed, and when I needed it! He's an ON TIME God! :)
I am just excited about what this year holds with all kinds of new opportunities for me! Hopefully I will be a bit more on top of my game and post at least every now and then :) We shall see.
My new room is so big! I love it! :) But, I do miss my windows!

My crazy, awesome team! :)

Change

Last week I heard news that one of our Kindergarten  teachers was retiring. We were shocked. Then I heard that a second grade teacher was moving down to kinder, her favorite, and that left a 2nd grade position open. For a split second I thought, hmmm, maybe I should go to 2nd?! Then I thought, nahh. If the principal comes to me, I may. Well on Monday I decided to call her and just talk to her about it. She didn't answer. Thankfully because two minutes later I got an email saying that someone from 4th was moving down and that left a 4th position open and I already knew I didn't want 4th. So, I took that as my answer. Well, she called me back. I almost didn't answer and then I did just to explain. Nothing happened. Until today. Our principal mentioned something to another teacher about switching. This would mean I would move to 2nd and she would move to 3rd (taking my place), leaving a 5th grade position open. And that's exactly what happened. So, I've finished my first year teaching, learned a lot of things and wanted to change a lot of things, and am now moving to a whole new grade level! I'm really excited though! This is a self-contained class, which I have mixed emotions about. This last year I only taught ELAR/SS and now I will be teaching everything! But all in all, I think it will be a wonderful experience! I have positive goals to work toward now!

Thank God it's SUMMER.

Well, I started this blog with every intention of keeping it up and being one of those awesome "teacher bloggers." We all see how well that's gone. It's already the third week of summer and I have all of 3 posts up. And none of those have been since school's been out. So much for the awesome part of  "teacher blogger". I have done a lot of fun things though! About a week and a half ago, my sister, a co-teacher of mine (along with her daughter), and myself spent the weekend in San Antonio. We went to the Zoo and then spent Saturday at Sea World. Teachers get a FREE SEASON PASS, so we thought why not?! It was a blast! Then this last Sunday was Father's Day. But, it was also my 24th birthday. That was a hard one for me. I have no idea why, other than the fact that I'm only getting closer to 30. Yes, I know, a bit dramatic. But STILL. We spent the afternoon in Houston, ate at Maggiano's and shopped a bit. It was a good day overall. :) Well, I'll wrap up this post since I typed it yesterday and then never posted it. Once again, all for the awesome part. Toodles!

Tour de Room 126.

Here are just a few pictures of my classroom. These are just from my phone since, sadly, I can't find all the pictures my dad took for me.

Yes, I do decorate for every holiday. I know, I know. I'm one of "those". :)

This what it looks like now. Big difference from the beginning of the year.

I love my classroom! I may be biased, but I think it's bright and fun! ;)

Year one...almost down.

Well, it was my plan to keep this wonderful teacher blog like all those other super teachers out there, but that clearly didn't happen. As we all can see, it's nearly the end of May and I'm just now posting my first post! Oh well, if that's the worst thing that happens... I have almost survived my first year of teaching! 20 more days. It has been a year of good, bad, stress, excitement, tears, smiles, laughter, discouragement, accomplishment and much more. Going into this school year I had so many dreams and ideas that I would be this phenomenal teacher and change the lives of these kids. Well, reality is that I'm probably not this great and phenomenal teacher who has changed the lives of these kids in a great way. But, I do believe I have made somewhat of an impact on them. It has been extremely challenging, yet rewarding, to help students who need such love, care and attention. I've learned a lot that I never knew. A lot that I can learn from and change for future years. As for now, it is my goal to keep this up with stories and memories of my first year teaching and continue to try and make a difference in the next generation.
